A Night of Comedy

Friday, June 21st ~ 8:00 pmTicket

Tickets $10.00 per person

Sal DemilioFeaturing Sal Demilio

Comedy has been an important aspect to Sal Demilio’s life since grade school. Growing up in an Italian household and having lived in Italy, Switzerland, New York City and finally, the Detroit metro area, he has woven his Italian heritage into his comedy routine.

Having been a fan of comedy all his life, Sal took a class at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle, and got hooked on the laughter and applause after putting on a show for his graduation assignment. From there he went on to area bars, coffee houses and restaurants to hone his skills. Since he started doing opening acts 14 years ago, Sal is a national headliner, performing at comedy clubs throughout the United States, and has also performed at all the comedy clubs in the Detroit metro area. His professional inspirations have been Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Pryorand Jerry Seinfeld.

Derek RichardsHeadliner Derek Richards

"The only thing surprising about Derek is that he's not bigger."

                                           Florida New Times Magazine

Richards' act is fasts, fresh and, at times, fanatical - often described as a politically incorrect discussion amongst friends at a bar.

Show after show, Derek brings the funny with tales about his Detroit, blue-collar upbringing, his mom's dog, the holidays, living in Florida, and dating an exotic dancer.

A veteran of several USO tours, Richards was chosen as one of the first performers at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba after the base begain guarding jailed Al-Qaeda terrorists. The comedy tour earned Richards national coverage in Newsweek. He also has performed at U.S. base camps in seven countries, including Iraq and Afghasistan.

You can catch Richards on the air via the Sirius/XM Satallite Radio Network and on the nationally syndicated, Bob and Tom Show along with Bob and Sheri. He also appeared on The Weather Channel's Top 10 series.

Anna GivensAn American Music SeriesTicket
Starring Anna Givens

Friday, July 26th - 8:00 pm

Tickets $10.00 per person

Ohio recording artist Anna Givens will be bringing to the State Room at The Sandusky State Theatre her celebrated band featuring Ohio jazz legend Clifford Murphy on bass and future jazz legend Josh Silver on keys.  Anna sings jazz, standards, swing, blues, rock and country. She possesses a voice and a style unlike anything you’ve heard, but you recognize it instantly as genuine, sincere, and authentic. Her delivery is effortless, her artistry impeccable. Her good humor, beauty, and love for the music rock.  She puts a current twist to the old classics bringing back that glorious sound of jazz and blues that once had a grip on every person on this planet. From Ella to Frank to Billie; from big band to a smooth trio, Anna gives it a new fresh sound as audiences become engaged once again as they did long ago.

“If you long for the sad, sultry torch songs that were the trademark of all the great women jazz singers of the classic era - Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughan – then boy, have I got a CD for you.”  Sal Serio - Maximum Ink Magazine

“She stays true to the smooth yet complex jazz style that has been around for years. The best part of hearing her songs is how Givens proves there is great depth that can be mined from bringing a new flavor to a genre that is the root of all music.”  Indie Music Reviews

This year, Anna was lead singer for the winner, Swingmania, at the 9th annual Detroit Battle of the Swing Bands, 2013. She has performed and recorded with blues greats Otis Taylor, Eddie Turner, and Taj Mahal and jazz legends Claude Black, Johnny O’Neal, and Clifford Murphy.

The fun-loving spirit and immortal songs that make GREASE a favorite among rock and roll fans of all ages. Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'", "It's Raining on Prom Night", "Alone at the Drive-In Movie" recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation.

Glenn Miller Orchestra

Glenn Miller Orchestra

Thursday, December 19th Ticket

2:00 pm

Show Only: $21.00 - $31.00
Dinner & Show Package: $39.00 - $49.00

Glenn Miller OrchestraGlenn Miller and His Orchestra made a big impact right before and during the war. And it had more hit records in one year than anybody in the history of the recording industry. In fact, its recording
ofChattanooga Choo-Choo earned the first Gold Record ever awarded to a performing artist. Additional Gold Record recordings include "In the Digital Mood" and "In The Christmas Mood, " Volume I & II.

Back in the days of the big band era of the forties, any dance band "worth its salt" had a distinctive theme song. It was the musical signature with which they signed on and signed off at their engagements and radio broadcasts. The theme of Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was the beautiful Moonlight Seranade, and it is still the signature tune of the Glenn Miller Orchestra today. Interestingly enough, Glenn Miller originally wrote the music of the song himself as an exercise for a course in arranging. He composed it long before he organized his band, when he was a trombonist and arranger with Ray Nobles's famous band.

Today, it is considered a standard in the field of popular music with its popularity as an instrumental continuing undiminished through the years.

It is now more than 65 years since Glenn Miller first succeeded with the Orchestra, which still bears his name until this day. Except for a few years following his disappearance, Glenn's orchestra and music have been heard around the world continuously since 1938.
